Technical messages

WhatsApp sometimes generates messages when something happens in a chat, e.g. if somebody leaves a group. These messages came in different languages in the chats that were sent in, so we decided to encode them. We also encoded messages in which we made changes, e.g. if we removed media files. The following codes exist in the corpus:

• mediaQremoved: for media that we removed
• systemQspk53: says very generally, that speaker 53 did something, e.g. changed the title, joined the group etc.
• emptyQmsg: an empty message
• encryptedQmsg: some informants encrypted their messages
